Many traditional midwives still exist in Honduras. In spite of being relatively dis-empowered, they offer wonderful, compassionate and intuitive care, often in rural locations where the nearest hospital is many hours away.

Midwives in Honduras learn through hands on practice and from others. They receive no formal training or recognition. Many lack practical skills needed for emergency situations, and therefore, have been asking for more education. Dar a Luz has created a respectful training program for these midwives, one which recognizes the wealth of invaluable knowledge that they already possess.

Our aim is to empower these midwives, learn from them, and encourage a new generation to serve in their communities.
