Since Friday, Emma has been here from New York. She is already
helping with office work! Emma is a doula who is interested in
adolescent health and is also studying to become a nurse.
Emma arrived with a suitcase full of hearts, which must have confused
the customs officials a great deal. These heart shaped stress balls
will help women during labor, giving them something to squeeze during
contractions. This is a great gift and a blessing for the women here.
We are planning to go, besides the work in the hospital of La Ceiba, to the hospital in Tela to work there and
deliver to the maternity ward two of the birthing balls which Mandy donated and to demonstrate their use. They expressed a willingness to offer this comfort measure to women during labor.
Also, we look forward to going to Copan and Santa Rosa de Copan in
order to bring education materials for the waiting areas in the
hospitals and healthcare centers. We also will work with the local
hospitals and healthcare centers, and spend time supporting women in
the maternity wards while we are there.
Welcome to Honduras Emma and thank you for being here!
